Ferrari’s first fully electric car has made headlines after being sold for a staggering $40 million at a charity auction during Monterey Car Week in California.

According to a foreign media report, Ferrari’s bespoke, tailor-made electric car, named Luče, was auctioned by Sotheby’s and fetched $40 million, making it the most expensive new car ever sold at auction.

Ferrari said the sale surpassed the previous record set in 2025, when a specially commissioned Ferrari Daytona SP3 was sold for $26 million at auction.

The record-breaking sale comes at a time when Ferrari has faced criticism over its move into the electric vehicle market. However, the extraordinary price achieved by Luče highlights the continued demand among wealthy collectors for rare and highly exclusive Ferrari models.

The auction was held as part of Monterey Car Week, one of the world’s leading automotive events, which brings together collectors, enthusiasts and some of the rarest and most valuable cars from around the world.
