PESHAWAR: A young man from Bacha Mena village near the Pak-Afghan border in Khyber district has died of dengue.
The deceased identified as Khursheed Anwar was receiving treatment at Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar, where he died on Wednesday.
Family sources said Anwar had contracted dengue about a week ago and was shifted to the hospital for treatment. Despite continued treatment and medical care he could not survived.
However the District health officer (DHO) Khyber said Anwar case was not registered in the health department’s records and that he he had no information about the reported death.
According to the health department 19 dengue cases have so far been reported in Landi Kotal, including three locally transmitted cases and 16 cases involving people who came from other areas. Seven patients are currently under treatment in hospitals.
Local elders have expressed concern over the rising number of dengue cases in Landi Kotal and complained about a lack of effective preventive measures.
They said mosquito spraying and distribution of mosquito nets had been carried out in the past but such activities appeared to be limited this year.
The elders urged the authorities to take immediate notice of the situation and launch an effective anti-dengue campaign in Landi Kotal.
