ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s automobile market has started the new fiscal year on a strong note as car sales jumped by 141.28% in July 2026 compared with the same month last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), a total of 17,216 cars were sold in July, compared with just 7,135 units in July 2025. The sharp increase points to a significant recovery in demand after a difficult period for the local auto industry.

High vehicle prices, rising financing costs and economic uncertainty had kept many buyers away from the market in recent years. The latest figures also show growing activity in the electric vehicle (EV) segment, suggesting that consumer interest is gradually shifting towards newer, more fuel-efficient vehicles.

The strong July performance could be an encouraging sign for automakers, dealers and other businesses linked to the automobile industry. However, industry players will be watching the coming months closely to see whether the surge can be sustained.

If sales continue to rise, the recovery could provide fresh momentum to Pakistan’s auto sector and contribute to broader economic activity. For now, the July numbers offer a positive start to the 2026-27 fiscal year, with consumers appearing more willing to return to the car market.
