ISLAMABAD: Serene Air has decided to wind up its operations and business setup in Pakistan, including its city and airport offices across the country, according to aviation sources.
Sources said the airline’s Chinese chief executive officer visited Pakistan last month and held meetings with senior officials of relevant institutions. During the meetings, a decision was finalised to close the airline’s operations and dispose of its assets in Pakistan.
The airline has also informed its employees about the closure. Staff members were asked through email to collect their personal belongings as the offices were being vacated. According to aviation sources, Serene Air has already sold its vehicles and other saleable assets in Pakistan through vendors. Its airport offices have subsequently been handed over to the Civil Aviation Authority.
Sources further said the airline has cleared its outstanding dues, taxes, rents and other payments owed to the government and relevant institutions. The development marks the closure of another chapter for the privately owned airline, which had operated domestic and international flights from Pakistan.
The airline’s decision to wind up its local business operations is expected to draw attention within Pakistan’s aviation industry, particularly as private carriers continue to face challenges related to operating costs and the wider business environment.
