PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) has summoned a meeting of its provincial cabinet on August 18 at Bacha Khan Markaz, the party’s central headquater in Peshawar.

According to a party announcement, the meeting will begin at 11am and will be chaired by ANP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Mian Iftikhar Hussain. The meeting will review the current political situation in the province, along with other important political and organisational matters. Members of the provincial cabinet have been asked to attend the meeting.

The meeting comes as political parties in KP continue to focus on the province’s law-and-order situation, local government matters and other key political issues. The ANP leaders have recently called for stronger local governments and discussed the deteriorating security situation in the province.

The party has also remained vocal on issues concerning provincial rights and governance. ANP’s political agenda has traditionally included greater provincial autonomy and stronger institutions under the 18th Constitutional Amendment.

The August 18 meeting is therefore expected to provide the provincial leadership an opportunity to discuss the latest developments and decide the party’s position on matters affecting the province.
