PESHAWAR: Peshawar is set to host an international squash championship for the first time, with the Shams-ul-Qamar PSA Satellite International Squash Championship scheduled to take place from August 20 to 24, 2026.

The five-day event is being organised by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Squash Association with the support of the Shams-ul-Qamar Foundation. The championship carries a total prize purse of $1,000.

A total of 32 top squash players from across Pakistan will participate in the tournament. National and emerging players will have the opportunity to compete for valuable Professional Squash Association (PSA) world ranking points.

The opening ceremony will be held on August 20, while the main draw and knockout rounds will continue from August 20 to 23. The final and closing ceremony are scheduled for August 24.

Speaking on the occasion, squash legend and former world No. 1 Qamar Zaman said international competitions of this nature would play an important role in providing young and talented players with a platform to showcase their abilities.

He said Peshawar had a rich history in squash and that hosting such events would further strengthen Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s traditional position in the international squash arena.

The organisers have invited sports fans, media representatives and squash enthusiasts to attend the championship and encourage the participating players.
