ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has condemned the recent drone incursions from Afghanistan, termed them a violation of Pakistan’s national sovereignty.
In a statement, Bilawal paid tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces for thwarting the attacks and said security officials had successfully neutralized all eight drones before they could reach their intended targets.
According to Bilawal, Pakistan subsequently responded by targeting 10 locations in Afghanistan that he said were used to launch and store the drones. The PPP chairman called on the Afghan authorities to explain how attacks against Pakistan could be launched from Afghan territory and said Kabul’s responsibility went beyond simply distancing itself from the incidents.
He said the Afghan government must take steps to prevent attacks originating from its territory and hold those responsible accountable. Bilawal stressed that ending armed operations against Pakistan from Afghan soil was essential to achieving lasting peace in the region.
His comments come amid continuing security concerns along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and renewed calls for Afghan authorities to prevent militant activity directed against Pakistan from their territory.
