ISLAMABAD: The United States has announced the resumption of regular consular services at its consulates in Karachi and Lahore, including visa processing and services for American citizens.
The services had been suspended in March following violent protests in Pakistan that raised security concerns. The suspension came after unrest erupted in the country amid regional tensions.
In Karachi, protesters had attempted to breach the outer security wall of the US Consulate, leading to clashes with security forces and casualties. Following the incident, consular operations were halted as a precautionary measure.
In a video statement shared on social media platform X, the US Embassy announced that the Karachi and Lahore consulates would restart their services.

The embassy advised applicants to avoid paying agents or intermediaries for visa services and urged them to use official government channels for visa-related procedures.
The US authorities, however, did not announce a specific date or timeline for the complete restoration of services.
Earlier this year, the US State Department announced the permanent closure of its consulate in Peshawar, with services for the region shifted to the US Embassy in Islamabad and other consular facilities.
The State Department said the decision was taken to ensure the safety of diplomatic personnel and improve the efficient use of resources.
