Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government employees have announced a strike and protest on May 12 and 20 in favor of their demands, due to which the activities of government offices and educational institutions across the province are likely to be affected.

According to the All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA), a complete lockdown will be imposed in all government offices, schools, and other educational institutions in the province today, while protest demonstrations will also be held in front of the press clubs of all districts at 12 noon.

AGEGA has warned that if the government does not accept the demands of the employees, a complete strike and protest will be held again on May 20.

The organization has demanded that the old pension system for government employees be restored and the allowances of 2011 and 2015 be reissued.

In addition, there is a demand for a 30 percent disparity reduction allowance (DRA) for provincial employees on the same basis as federal employees, and for increasing house rent, medical, and conveyance allowance to a minimum of Rs. 20,000.

AGEGA has further demanded that the decision to privatize government institutions, schools, colleges, and hospitals be withdrawn, while contract teachers be made permanent.
