ISLAMABAD: Abraham Accords are a set of accords that seek to establish diplomatic relations between Israel and a number of nations predominantly Muslim in nature.

The agreements were made in 2020 under the first term presidency of Donald Trump who announced it as part of efforts towards fostering peace and harmony between Muslims, Jews, and Christians in the Middle Eastern region.

The Abraham Accords seek to achieve diplomatic relationship, embassies, trade, tourism, investments, and security cooperation between Israel and the participating nations.

Which Countries Have Signed the Abraham Accords?

The Abraham Accords have been signed between Israel and UAE as well as Israel and Bahrain in 2020.

Additionally, Morocco and Sudan have also entered into agreements to normalize their diplomatic ties with Israel as per U.S. mediation.

There is information indicating that other countries have considered signing the agreement.

Why Is the Agreement Controversial?

The agreements were welcomed by the Israeli government considering it as a significant diplomatic breakthrough in both the Arab and Muslim nations. However, the Palestinian leadership as well as other Muslim nations have criticized these agreements because of its non-involvement of Palestinians.

According to critics, such normalization must come after Palestinians establish their own independent nation.

Pakistan’s Position

However, Pakistan believes that it cannot give recognition to the Israeli state unless a sovereign state is created for the Palestinians in accordance with pre-1967 boundaries with Jerusalem being the capital of that state.

The official stand of Pakistan regarding this issue has remained unaltered since the era of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and it can be called one of the constitutional policies of Pakistan.
