A significant discrepancy has reportedly emerged between the digital and physical stock of medicines at the Polyclinic Hospital in Islamabad, with sources claiming that medicines worth millions of rupees are recorded in the hospital’s online system but are unavailable at the main dispensary.
According to audit team sources, the hospital’s current medicine inventory includes substantial quantities of medicines for diabetes, heart disease, blood pressure, gastrointestinal conditions, pain relief and infections.
However, despite the medicines being listed as available in the online system, their physical stock could not reportedly be found at the dispensary. The reported stock includes 119,980 tablets of Glucemiate (50/500mg) and 69,716 tablets of Sitagen-M (50/500mg) for diabetes treatment.
The insulin inventory reportedly lists 17,218 vials of Insujet 70/30 (100 IU/ml) and 853 vials of Basagene. For heart and blood pressure conditions, the system reportedly shows 29,883 tablets of Loprin (75mg) and 997 tablets of Tansin (50mg).
The inventory also lists 21,000 tablets of Dom Flash, 23,760 tablets of Lumisec (20mg) and 880 bottles of Dufalac syrup for gastrointestinal conditions. Meanwhile, the reported stock of painkillers and antibiotics includes 26,095 tablets of Pain-XT, 12,600 tablets of Mefnac DS and 45,500 tablets of Ospamox (500mg).
Other medicines listed in the system include 59,537 tablets of Actem (5mg), 23,952 tablets of Glin-XL and 25,040 tablets of Emsofen (50mg). Sources said the medicines continue to appear as available in the online inventory system, despite their reported absence from the physical dispensary.
As a result, patients are allegedly being informed that the prescribed medicines are “NS”, or “not in stock”.
The discrepancy has raised questions over the hospital’s medicine inventory and stock management system. The hospital administration has reportedly been contacted for a response, but no reply had been received at the time of publication.
