ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has declined to participate in the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy in India, citing the prevailing security situation.
The President of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), Mohi-ud-Din Wani, stated that Pakistan has approached Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) asking it to host matches at a neutral place.
Wani said that the step was taken after analyzing the present security scenario, and it is their desire that they want a conducive environment for their players.
He further said that Pakistan is still ready to face all teams, including India, on the hockey field.
The PHF president expressed hope that the Asian Hockey Federation would consider Pakistan’s proposal positively.
The Asian Hockey Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held in India from October 27.
Germany Retain Hockey World Cup, Equal Pakistan’s Record
On August 30, Germany successfully defended their Hockey World Cup title after defeating Spain 1-0 in the final of the 2026 tournament.
Germany scored the only goal of the final through Stroothoff in the third quarter. The German side held on to their narrow lead for the remainder of the match to secure another World Cup triumph.
With the victory, Germany equalled Pakistan’s record of four Hockey World Cup titles.
Pakistan and Germany now stand level with four World Cup championships each, making them the joint-most successful teams in the history of the tournament.
