ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a rain alert in the country.
According to the NDMA, a weather system is likely to enter northern Pakistan from tomorrow. Due to which rains are expected in Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northeastern Punjab.
Heavy rain is likely in the upper reaches of the Indus River from July 7 to 10. While rain is also likely in the upper reaches of the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers. The intensity of rains may increase in Islamabad, Potohar, and Azad Kashmir on July 7.
According to the NDMA, the intensity of rains is expected to increase in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern Punjab, and northern Balochistan.
Due to the expected rains, there is a possibility of a slight increase in the inflow of water in Tarbela and Mangla Dams. And there is also a possibility of a slight increase in the flow of water in the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers. However, there is no threat of large-scale river flooding in the current situation.
Sudden local increases in water flow in mountain streams and small rain streams are expected. Local flooding is expected in sensitive upland areas and mountain streams.
According to the NDMA, there is a risk of flooding in urban areas and inundation of low-lying areas during heavy rains. While there is a risk of landslides in the mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir.
