The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across Punjab and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the next 48 hours.

According to the PMD, rain is expected in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Mianwali, Gujranwala, Kasur, Multan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Sialkot, Hafizabad, Jhelum, Narowal, Khushab, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Chakwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, and Faisalabad.

The change in weather has already been felt in Lahore, where showers turned the sky overcast and significantly eased the intensity of the summer heat.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Met Office said most districts are expected to remain hot during the day, while partly cloudy conditions will prevail across Peshawar and other plain and upper districts.

Rain and thunderstorms are also likely in several areas of the Malakand and Hazara divisions. Peshawar recorded a temperature of 31°C with humidity at 58%. Other temperatures recorded across the province included 14°C in Chitral, 18°C in Dir, 21°C in Malam Jabba, 24°C in Saidu Sharif and Abbottabad, 31°C in Bannu, and 32°C in Dera Ismail Khan.

The PMD has advised the public to remain cautious during thunderstorms, as strong winds and heavy downpours at isolated locations may disrupt traffic, damage weak structures, and cause temporary urban flooding in low-lying areas.

Motorists have also been urged to drive carefully during periods of reduced visibility. Earlier this month, the PMD’s seasonal monsoon outlook warned that while overall rainfall may remain below normal in some parts of the country, intense monsoon spells could still trigger urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides in vulnerable areas during the season.
