WASHINGTON: Former US Marine Robert Gilman, who had been imprisoned in Russia for 4 years, has been released and has arrived in the United States.

‎According to US media, Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to pardon Gilman and he was released on humanitarian grounds due to health issues.

‎US President Donald Trump welcomed the release of the former US Marine and said that after talks with Putin, Gilman’s release on humanitarian grounds became possible.

‎Trump added that Russia did not demand the release of any Russian prisoner in return.

‎Gilman was arrested in Moscow in 2022 on charges of assaulting a Russian police officer. He had been in Russian custody for the past 4 years.
