ISLAMABAD: The Energy Ministry said on Thursday that a massive operation has been launched against officers guilty of poor performance in electricity companies across the country.
According to sources, the operation against the underperforming officers was initiated on the directives of the federal minister for Energy, Owais Leghari.
The Energy Minister issued orders for immediate and strict disciplinary action against the worst-performing field officers after reviewing the Customer Complaint Management System.
The spokesperson for the Power division said that more than 100 Sub-divisional officers (SDOs) and Executive Engineers in the DISCOs have been marked on the basis of worst performance, and their lists have been provided to the concerned Chief Executive Officers.
He said immediate action has already been taken, under which Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has suspended 3 SDOs and one XEN, while Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) has also suspended one SDO and a former Executive Engineer.
Energy Minister Owais Leghari on the occasion, expressed deep regret and disappointment over the failure to redress consumer complaints promptly, saying that the call centre platform 118 was established to make it an effective means of communication between consumers and the discos, but an officer who does not take this system seriously is damaging the government’s consumer-friendly vision.
He clarified that the pathetic performance of officers is not just an administrative failure but an injustice to the consumers. Strict measures such as suspension, transfer to non-operational or non-sensitive positions and forced retirement will be taken against officers guilty of continuous negligence.
According to the Power Division, the performance of underperforming officers was reviewed during the period from October 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, which revealed a very worrying trend of negligence and poor performance.
Now, an effective weekly monitoring system will be implemented at the sub-divisional and divisional levels to monitor the redressal of grievances, and the performance ratings of all SDOs and XENs will be published every quarter to strengthen transparency and accountability in the electricity sector.
