PESHAWAR (Salman Yousafzai): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is actively considering an expansion of the Sehat Card’s annual financial coverage, potentially raising the limit from Rs 1 million to Rs 1.5 million.
Provincial Health Minister Khaliq-ur-Rehman confirmed that consultations with the Chief Minister are currently underway to finalise this increase. The Minister shared these details during the inauguration of a state-of-the-art oncology and patient care ward at the Rehman Medical Institute (RMI).
During his visit to the new facility, the Health Minister was briefed by Dr Fawad Al-Qamar, Head of the Oncology Department, on the advanced diagnostic tools, specialised pharmacy services, and modern treatment protocols now available to cancer patients. The ceremony also featured a moving testimonial from a cancer survivor who credited the intensive care and effective treatment at RMI for her return to a healthy, normal life.
Addressing the gathering, Shafiq-ur-Rehman highlighted the gravity of the health crisis, noting that Pakistan records approximately 185,000 new cancer cases annually, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bearing one-fifth of the national burden. He said that combating this challenge requires a unified, collective effort.
Dr Fawad Al-Qamar added that RMI adopts a personalised approach for every patient, integrating medical expertise with psychological and psychiatric support to provide comprehensive, family-centred care tailored to individual needs.
