PESHAWAR (Haroon Shinwari):  The education system of government schools in Jamrud Tehsil of Khyber District has suffered a major setback when the Education Department immediately terminated the services of more than 567 Parent Teacher Council (PTC) teachers.

After this sudden decision, there has been a severe shortage of teachers in several educational institutions in the area, which has created a serious fear of affecting the education and teaching activities of students.

The dismissed teachers say that they had been filling the teaching gap by filling the shortage of teachers in various government schools for the past several months, and now their dismissal will severely degrade the educational quality of the schools.

On the other hand, the officials of the Khyber District Education Department have clarified their position and said that these appointments were not permanent but were made on a temporary basis under PTC for only four months at a monthly salary of Rs. 25,000.

Now that the stipulated period of the project has been completed, their services have been terminated as per the official instructions of the Directorate of Education Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Officials further said that since the summer vacations are now starting, the relevant agencies will reassess the situation after the schools reopen.

After that, either the tenure of the existing teachers will be extended or new appointments will be decided as per the need.

On the other hand, parents and students of the area have strongly demanded from the government and the education department to take immediate steps to save the future of the children and maintain educational continuity so that the problem of shortage of teachers can be solved as soon as the schools reopen after the summer vacations.
