CALIFORNIA: WhatsApp is testing a new update that will allow users to pin up to four messages at the top of personal and group chats.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp currently allows users to pin up to three messages. The new update adds a fourth slot, making it easier to keep important information visible.

The feature could be particularly useful in busy group chats, where important messages can quickly get buried. Users could pin event details, meeting locations, rules, schedules and other important updates. Group admins will continue to control who can pin messages through existing group settings.

To pin a message, users simply need to tap and hold the message or media file they want to keep at the top of the chat. They can then select the Pin option from the pop-up menu and choose how long they want the message to remain pinned.

Once pinned, the message appears in a banner at the top of the chat along with other pinned messages. Users can tap the banner to view all the pinned messages whenever needed.

The feature is currently available to some Android beta testers as WhatsApp gradually rolls it out. The company has not announced when it will be available to all users or when it will reach iOS and desktop.
