WASHINGTON: United States President Donald Trump announced that planned military strikes and bombing operations against Iran scheduled for tonight have been postponed following talks with Tehran’s leadership.
In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said the decision was made after discussions with Iran’s top leadership and claimed that all parties involved had agreed on the final points of a proposed deal.
According to Trump, the countries included in the agreement are the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and Egypt.
He added that the venue and timing for the signing ceremony would be announced soon, but stressed that the US naval blockade would remain in place until the agreement is formally completed.
Earlier, Trump had warned that Washington was preparing for what he described as extremely tough action against Iran.
He claimed that Iran’s naval and air capabilities, including radar systems and air defence installations, had already suffered significant damage.
Trump further stated that the United States intends to secure control of Iran’s Kharg Island and other major oil infrastructure points in the near future, while also seeking influence over Iranian oil and gas markets.
He said Washington planned to apply a model similar to the one previously used in Venezuela’s energy sector.
Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters in Florida that the United States has a decisive plan ready against Iran.
He warned that if Tehran failed to make progress toward an agreement with Washington, key Iranian installations could be targeted.
