WASHINGTON: The US government has temporarily suspended the processing of certain types of work-based immigrant visas issued to Indians due to hitting the yearly cap for the fiscal year 2026.
As reported by the US Department of State, all new Employment-Based Second Preference (EB-2) immigrant visas for India have been utilized. As stated in a formal statement released by the department, all EB-2 visas for Indian citizens “have been allocated,” in coordination with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
Consequently, the issuance of such visas will not be possible from now on at all American embassies and consulates around the globe until October 1, 2026, when the new fiscal year starts.
It should be noted that the mentioned EB-2 visa is popular among many skilled professionals such as engineers, IT experts, researchers, doctors, and executives, wishing to permanently reside in the country.
