PESHAWAR: A new report on Afghan refugees in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, has revealed complex and intriguing facts, prompting law enforcement agencies to start compiling detailed records.
According to the report, the identification system within some families is so mixed up that, in one household, a brother may be a Pakistani citizen while his sister is an Afghan refugee; in other cases, the mother may be Afghan while the father is Pakistani. There are also instances where one brother holds a Pakistani identity while the other has an Afghan one.
Sources indicate that efforts are underway to identify individuals who are illegally obtaining Pakistani identity cards. Records of individuals present in various commercial centers and markets have been collected and forwarded to law enforcement agencies. The report includes significant commercial and residential areas of Peshawar, such as Khyber Bazaar, Namak Mandi, Plastic Market, Peshawar Board, Nasir Bagh, Hayatabad, Ring Road, and Chowk Yadgar.
Officials have stated that some individuals have fraudulently obtained Pakistani identity cards. These cases often involve changes in identity based on marriages or business records, as well as the provision of false information to government systems. Institutions have indicated that individuals with suspicious identities will be investigated, actions will be taken against those with fake documents, and the process for complete data verification is being accelerated.
