Residents of South Waziristan protested against the suspension of mobile internet service for the past two months and demanded immediate restoration of the service.
The protesters were holding placards in their hands, on which slogans like “Restoration of network is the responsibility of the government” and “Mobile internet is our need and right” were written.
Locals participating in the protest said that educational, business and commercial activities are being severely affected due to the continuous shutdown of the mobile network. According to them, students are deprived of online educational facilities, while traders and businessmen are also facing difficulties in their daily affairs.
The protesters said that the restoration of mobile internet service is the responsibility of the government. They said that provision of basic communication facilities to the citizens is also a vital responsibility of the authorities.
The protest participants warned that if the government does not take immediate and effective steps on their demands, the Tank-Dera Ismail Khan highway will be closed to all types of traffic in the next few days. The protesters expressed their determination to continue their peaceful struggle to achieve their rights within the framework of the constitution and law.
It should be noted that thousands of citizens are being affected due to the prolonged shutdown of internet service in several areas of South Waziristan, while the residents of Tiyarza Gate, Machhan Baba, Wacha Khora and Gajhe Peza have demanded an immediate solution to this problem from the relevant authorities.
