SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: In a landmark move for public facilitation, the first-ever LTV, HTV and PSV Driving License Office was inaugurated in Lower Wana, North Waziristan on Wednesday.
The office was formally inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner Khalid Qayyum. Local tribal elder Malik Sheriyar was also present at the ceremony.
Residents of Lower Wana had to travel to Peshawar or other major cities to obtain commercial and passenger driving licenses. The new office will issue LTV (Light Transport Vehicle) and HTV (Heavy Transport Vehicle licenses.
Officials said the facility aims to save citizens time and money, and to bring government services closer to people in far-flung areas of the merged districts. Speaking at the inauguration, ADC Khalid Qayyum said the provincial government is committed to providing basic facilities at the doorstep of citizens.
He added that the establishment of the driving license branch is part of broader reforms to strengthen service delivery in North Waziristan. Malik Sheriyar, while addressing the gathering, welcomed the initiative and termed it a “long-standing demand” of the people of Wana. He said the office will not only help local drivers but will also create employment and improve road safety standards in the region.
Residents expressed happiness over the opening but also urged the administration to establish more district-level offices in Wana. Citizens said that in addition to the driving license branch, offices for NADRA, passport, and other public departments are also needed in Lower Wana to reduce dependence on Peshawar and Bannu.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by officials of the Excise and Taxation Department, local elders, and a large number of residents. The new office is expected to begin issuing licenses immediately.
