PESHAWAR: Multiple private schools across Peshawar have ignored the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary & Secondary Education Department’s notification announcing summer vacations for primary classes, keeping students attending classes amid severe June heat.

According to the official notification issued by the Education Department before Eid-ul-Adha, all schools were directed to close for students from Class 1 to Class 5 for summer break. The order was meant to protect young children from extreme temperatures.

Parents voiced serious concerns over schools staying open in violation of government instructions. They said sending small children to school during peak summer heat poses health risks, including dehydration and heatstroke.“Provincial government issued a clear notification, yet schools are operating as usual. The administration must ensure these instructions are followed and small classes remain closed,” parents said.

Parents have urged the provincial government to take strict action against schools that are not complying with the official directives. They demanded immediate enforcement of the summer vacation order for Classes 1-5 and penalties for institutions defying the notification. The Education Department has not yet commented on reports of non-compliance. Education officials earlier said inspections would be conducted to ensure all schools follow the summer break schedule.
