ABBOTTABAD: A heavy landslide hit the Bara Gali-Kasala Road in the Galiyat region, causing road blockade and raising concerns over the safety of nearby residential homes.

Heavy and large pieces of rocks slid onto the main road which disrupted traffic. Moreover, it has also sparked concern among local residents as the sliding and rocks have reached dangerously close to nearby houses.

Residents fear further slope movement could cause damage to residential structures. Despite the road blockage and risks to nearby homes, clearance work has yet to begin.

Commuters and residents have urged the district administration and relevant authorities to immediately deploy heavy machinery to remove the debris, reopen the road and take measures to safeguard the surrounding residential area.

They also called for prompt action to prevent further disruption and ensure the safety of people living near the affected slope.

It merits to mention here that landslides are a recurring hazard in the hilly areas of Abbottabad and Galiyat, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall, often disrupting road links and posing risks to communities living near vulnerable slopes.
