ISLAMABAD: The Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment in Pakistan has issued new guidelines for Pakistani citizens working in Saudi Arabia, advising them to follow local laws and workplace rules and take steps to avoid legal or financial difficulties.
According to the guidelines, Pakistani workers should carry their Iqama (Saudi residence permit) at all times and ensure that it is renewed before its expiry. They have also been advised to use the required safety equipment at their workplaces.
Pakistani workers have been advised to keep copies of their monthly salary slips and bank statements and maintain records of their end-of-service benefits, or gratuity. The bureau has also advised workers to send money to their families in Pakistan only through official and authorized channels.
Workers should keep a copy of their employment contract and save part of their monthly income as an emergency fund. The guidelines state that workers should complete all required exit-clearance procedures before leaving Saudi Arabia.
Pakistani citizens have also been advised to dress modestly in public places and respect religious sites, Islamic practices and local customs. The bureau further advised Pakistanis to save the emergency contact number of the Pakistani embassy or consulate in Saudi Arabia so they can seek assistance when needed.
