Security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa district of Hangu foiled an infiltration attempt by more than 100 militants linked to Fitna al-Khawarij, officials said on Friday.

According to police authorities, a joint operation involving police, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and other security agencies successfully stopped the militants advance into the area.

Following the operation, schools, civilian properties, and surrounding mountainous regions were completely cleared to ensure public safety.

Officials stated that militants fired mortar shells during the clash, with several rounds landing in populated areas. As a result, six civilians were killed and 13 others sustained injuries. Authorities added that the attackers fled the area while taking their dead and wounded companions with them.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed praised the personnel who took part in the successful operation and announced rewards and commendation certificates for the officers involved.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief said the provincial police force possesses the capability to eliminate Fitna al-Khawarij and reaffirmed that no sacrifice would be spared to ensure the protection of the public.
