PESHAWAR: Senior journalist Tariq Afaq has claimed that high-level consultations on the possible imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been completed, with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) also reportedly giving its “green signal” to the move.
According to Afaq, a charge sheet against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has also been finalized, while a formal notification imposing governor’s rule could be issued as early as Sunday.
In a post on social media platform X, Afaq claimed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi had sent a comprehensive report to the federal government regarding the province’s prevailing law-and-order and administrative situation. He said developments on the issue accelerated following the submission of the report.

Afaq further claimed that during recent meetings between President Asif Ali Zardari and key political figures, there was consensus on using constitutional mechanisms to address the situation.
He also claimed that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had endorsed the move following consultations with constitutional and legal experts.
According to the journalist, all constitutional and legal matters have now been settled and significant political developments are expected in the coming days.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has himself reportedly confirmed in recent days that consultations regarding governor’s rule were underway. Statements from the federal government have also indicated that the possibilities of imposing an emergency or governor’s rule in the province were being considered.
