LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province from September 13 to 17, citing security concerns and threats to public safety.
According to a notification issued by the department, restrictions have been imposed to maintain public peace and protect the lives and property of citizens amid potential security threats.
Under the notification, gatherings of five or more people at public places, roads and open spaces have been prohibited. Rallies and processions are also banned, while carrying or displaying all types of weapons has been prohibited.
The restrictions will not apply to weddings, funeral prayers, burials or places of worship. Courts, government offices, officially permitted events and security personnel have also been exempted.
According to intelligence reports, terrorist organisations are planning to target public gatherings, prompting authorities to introduce the precautionary measures.
The restrictions come as Jamaat-e-Islami continues protests against petroleum levy-related measures across different parts of the country. JI chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has announced a march on Islamabad for September 20, with protest camps being established in various cities.
Meanwhile, political activities by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have also intensified, with the party announcing a long march towards Islamabad on September 27.
