PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flash flood alert for upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following persistent heavy rainfall, warning of a heightened risk of flooding in vulnerable areas.

According to the PDMA, rising water levels in streams and seasonal nullahs have been reported in Swat, Upper and Lower Dir, and Upper and Lower Chitral, with a possibility of flash flooding and localised inundation in low-lying regions.

The authority has directed all district administrations to take immediate precautionary and emergency measures, including the identification of high-risk settlements and sensitive locations, and to ensure timely evacuation where necessary.

Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence have been placed on high alert with instructions to keep all necessary resources ready for any emergency situation. Relief arrangements, including food, medical aid, and temporary shelter facilities, are being prepared in designated camps.

Farmers and livestock owners have been advised to move animals to safer locations, while traffic movement near rivers, streams, and vulnerable road sections is to be restricted as a precautionary measure.

The PDMA further instructed relevant departments to ensure rapid restoration of road access in case of disruptions and to pre-position emergency equipment in sensitive areas.

The Emergency Operations Centre of PDMA is operating round the clock, and district authorities have been directed to submit situation reports every six hours. Citizens have been urged to report any emergency situation on the helpline 1700.
