ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has reportedly directed party figures to consider bringing a no-confidence motion against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi if he fails to lead the planned march to Islamabad.
According to an ARY News report, Imran Khan conveyed the message to his sister, Noreen Niazi, during a meeting at Adiala Jail regarding the performance and political role of the KP chief minister.
Sources quoted in the report said Khan expressed dissatisfaction with Afridi and had previously conveyed a message through a lawyer that the chief minister should step down.
Niazi reportedly informed Khan that Afridi had announced a long march towards Islamabad for September 27. She also told him that a group of MPAs, reportedly associated with former KP chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur, was opposed to Afridi.
According to the sources, when Khan asked how many MPAs were against the chief minister, Niazi reportedly put the number at around 35.
The report further claimed that Khan instructed party figures to move a no-confidence motion against Afridi if he did not bring the Islamabad march on September 27. He also reportedly asked that a message be conveyed to Ali Amin Gandapur to initiate the no-confidence process in such a situation.
Sources said the message was subsequently conveyed to Afridi, following which further changes were made to the party’s programme.
The report also claimed that a senior federal minister has remained in contact with Afridi and that discussions are underway regarding a joint political strategy.
