PESHAWAR: Citizens in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have expressed strong criticism of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman over his recent statements concerning state institutions and his views on Afghanistan policy.
Speaking to local media, a resident of Charsadda complained about rising inflation and shortages of gas and electricity, saying people were struggling with basic necessities while political discussions remained focused on protests, relations with the Afghan Taliban and cooperation with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The resident urged Fazlur Rehman to prioritise domestic issues and work toward resolving problems faced by the people instead of focusing on matters concerning the Taliban.
A resident of Kalam in Swat said the Pakistan Army and security institutions had made significant sacrifices to protect the country. He said Fazlur Rehman, as a senior politician and religious scholar, should avoid statements against the military or state institutions that could, in his view, strengthen the narrative of Pakistan’s adversaries.
The Swat resident called on political leaders to stand with the country’s security institutions and support efforts aimed at safeguarding national security.
Citizens in Dera Ismail Khan also voiced their views, saying political differences were part of democratic discourse but national security and the country’s stability should remain a priority.
The residents said Fazlur Rehman was an experienced and influential political figure and urged him to play a constructive role in the country’s development and security. They called on political leaders to avoid statements that could, according to them, harm national interests.
The reactions come amid continued political debate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over Pakistan’s Afghanistan policy, relations with political parties and the role of state institutions.
