PESHAWAR: The basic salaries of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police officers and personnel could increase by 250% under a proposed hard-area allowance for officials serving in areas affected by terrorism.

Police authorities said recommendations regarding the grant of a hard-area allowance to KP police personnel performing counterterrorism duties have been approved and forwarded to the federal government.

The KP Home Department had earlier sent the recommendations to the federal government. Officials said details of the districts identified as hard areas will now be submitted for consideration.

Under the proposal, all districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa except Swabi and Hazara Division are expected to be recommended for hard-area status.

If the federal government grants final approval, a formal notification will be issued, officials said.

The proposed measure would result in a 250% increase in the basic salaries of police officers and personnel, according to police authorities.

Officials said the first letter seeking hard-area status for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was sent to the federal government in March 2025.

The KP Police has previously demanded hard-area status, citing the risks faced by its personnel in counterterrorism operations as well as a disparity in salaries compared with police personnel in other provinces.
