The Peshawar High Court has issued a written order of the previous hearing on the application filed by an Afghan widow regarding the acquisition of Pakistani citizenship along with her children.
According to the court order, NADRA has been directed to complete the proceedings on the petitioner’s case within three months as per the law. The court further ruled that during this period, the petitioner and her children should not be deported.
The petitioner’s lawyer, Sana Gulzar Advocate, took the position that the woman was married to a Pakistani citizen who later died. She said that the petitioner and her children had proof of registration cards earlier, but now they have approached NADRA for citizenship on the basis of marriage.
According to the lawyer, the case is pending in NADRA’s Joint Investigation Team, while the petitioner has also requested cancellation of the POR cards. The petition took the position that the woman is in danger of detention and deportation, so the court should stop the parties from deportation and issue an order to NADRA to decide the case within the stipulated time.
The court clarified in its order that the petitioner and their children should not be deported during this time and NADRA should complete the proceedings as per the law within three months.
