The Peshawar High Court, while giving an important decision on the applications for upgradation filed by retired teachers and civil servants, has rejected the request for upgradation after retirement.

The court ruled in its decision that upgradation after retirement cannot be obtained as a right, because upgradation can only be given to serving employees. According to the court, there is no clear law or policy regarding the upgradation of retired employees.

The Assistant Advocate General took the position that if upgradation is given to retired employees, it will put an additional burden on the national exchequer.

The court further said that since there is no legal basis in this regard, the applications filed by retired civil servants are declared inadmissible.

It should be noted that the petitioner retired employees had requested for upgradation to Grade 17 after completing 10 years of service, however, the court rejected it.
