In a sarcastic response to US President Donald Trump, Iran has declared California as Iranian territory.
The move came after Trump posted a controversial map on social media designating the Strait of Hormuz as US territory. In reaction to Trump’s post, the Iranian Consulate in Hyderabad, India released a new map of the United States.
The map labelled the American state of California as the “new territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” According to the Migration Policy Institute, a large number of people of Iranian descent live in California, especially in Los Angeles. Because of this, the Iranian community informally refers to the area as “Tehrangeles”
