PESHAWAR: In a major policy shift aimed at upholding cultural sensitivities and legal integrity, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Department has officially banned the appointment of male commission officers for recording the statements of veiled (Parda-Nasheen) women.
Under the new directives, only female officers will be authorized to record such statements. The department maintained that the practice of appointing male officers for this purpose is contrary to the spirit of the law, which seeks to provide a comfortable and secure environment for women who observe traditional veiling.
In the first phase of implementation, the district administration of Peshawar has nominated two female revenue officers to act as commission officers. These officers will be responsible for recording testimonies in relevant legal and land revenue cases within the district.
The Revenue Department confirmed that while the ban is currently effective in Peshawar, it will be expanded across the province in a phased manner through the newly integrated E-Registry system.
The official notification further instructs the designated female commission officers to strictly ensure transparent procedures.
This includes rigorous identity verification and the presence of witnesses to safeguard the legal rights of women during the documentation process.
