ISLAMABAD: Pakistan recorded an increase in petroleum product consumption during the current fiscal year compared to the previous year, according to the latest Economic Survey report.
The report stated that overall petroleum consumption increased by 3.5 per cent during the ongoing fiscal year. Consumption by the transport sector rose by 6.7pc, accounting for 82pc of the country’s total fuel demand.
According to the survey, petroleum consumption in the transport sector stood at 11.2 million metric tones.
Meanwhile, fuel consumption in the industrial sector declined by 42.6pc to 433,000 metric tonnes, with the sector accounting for 3.2pc of total fuel consumption.
According to the report despite the global energy crisis and uncertainty in international markets, the supply of fuel, electricity and essential commodities in Pakistan remained stable.
The report credited effective government planning and timely measures for maintaining uninterrupted supplies across the country.
The Government of Pakistan maintained at least four weeks’ worth of fuel reserves to ensure continuity in nationwide supply.
During this period, a National Coordination and Administrative Council was also established to improve coordination on energy and supply-related matters.
Officials said real-time dashboards were introduced to continuously monitor oil supplies, essential commodities, foreign exchange reserves and supply chain conditions, helping make the decision-making process more effective.
