More than 14,000 Afghan nationals have been arrested and repatriated to Afghanistan over the past two days in Peshawar as part of a federal government-led crackdown on illegal residents, sources said.

‎According to officials, special federal teams have started operations across the city. Beginning today, authorities will target shops, markets, residential buildings and other properties that are allegedly being used illegally by undocumented Afghan nationals.

‎Lists of such properties in several major commercial centers and residential areas of Peshawar have already been prepared.

‎Officials said the campaign is being carried out on directives from the federal government to clear illegal occupations and ensure compliance with immigration laws.

‎Meanwhile, reports have emerged of the release of some businessmen detained during the crackdown. Sources claim several individuals were released following recommendations from local trade organizations and public representatives.

‎The operation has also triggered internal scrutiny. Investigations have been launched against some police officials over allegations that they accepted bribes from migrants in exchange for their release.

‎Authorities say the crackdown will continue in phases, with further verification of documents and property records in the coming days.
