The Oil Tanker Contractors Association has given the federal government until August 10 to address their longstanding demands, warning that failure to engage with the association could lead to protests and a strike.
Association Chairman Abid Ullah Afridi said the group had written a letter to Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, urging the government to resolve the contractors’ issues within the given timeframe.
Afridi said the government had previously been given sufficient time to address their concerns. He recalled that the petroleum minister had invited representatives of the association for talks, during which Ali Pervaiz Malik and senior officials assured them that their demands would be considered.
According to the association chairman, their key demands include the allocation of a quota from the White Oil Pipeline and an increase in transportation rates.
Afridi said the petroleum minister had assured the contractors that a decision on their demands would be made by August 4. However, as the issues remain unresolved, the association has now set August 10 as the deadline.
He warned that if the government fails to resolve the matters by then, the association will announce its future course of action, including protests and a possible strike.
