Instant messaging platform WhatsApp has started rolling out a dedicated Parental Controls section for iPhone users, making it easier for parents and guardians to manage and monitor their children’s accounts.
Through WhatsApp’s parent-managed accounts, parents can control who is allowed to contact their children and which groups they can join.
They can also restrict access to certain features, including Channels and Status. The new controls will also provide parents with information about certain account activities, such as newly added contacts, blocked users and changes made to the child’s profile.
The dedicated Parental Controls section was previously available on Android and is now being introduced on iOS as well.
According to WhatsApp, the feature is designed for users who are below the minimum age required to use the app in their country or region.
In some cases, Apple may directly share information about a child’s age range with the app, allowing the relevant age-based protections to be applied.
The rollout is expected to give parents greater visibility and control over how younger users interact with WhatsApp while helping them manage their children’s online experience more safely.
