ISLAMABAD: Member of the National Assembly (MNA) and leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Sher Afzal Marwat has confirmed a report concerning a possible no-confidence move against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, claiming that PTI founder Imran Khan had conveyed a message calling for Afridi to step down.
According to details reported by a local news channel, Marwat said Imran Khan had conveyed the message through his lawyer, Salman Safdar, that the Islamabad march might be beyond Afridi’s capacity and that the KP chief minister should step down from his position.
The MNA claimed that Imran Khan’s alleged messages regarding Afridi had also been confirmed by Bushra Bibi’s family and PTI leader Nooreen Niazi.
Marwat said Imran Khan had further discussed the matter with Niazi, with Bushra Bibi also present at the time. According to Marwat, Imran Khan expressed strong displeasure with Sohail Afridi, Salman Akram Raja and two other individuals.
He further claimed that Niazi told Imran Khan that former KP chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur had formed a pressure group aimed at undermining Afridi and that around 35 lawmakers were allegedly ready to rebel against the chief minister.
According to Marwat, when Imran Khan asked what the lawmakers wanted, Niazi allegedly responded that they believed Afridi was unable to deliver results.
Marwat claimed that Imran Khan agreed with the lawmakers’ position and said that Afridi’s government would not last.
He added that even if Afridi failed to lead the Islamabad march, there would be no forgiveness from Imran Khan.
Earlier it was reported on September 27, that a message had been conveyed to initiate a no-confidence motion against Afridi if he failed to bring the Islamabad march. The report also claimed that around 35 MPAs were opposed to the chief minister.
