Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Secretariat has issued a formal notification for the appointment of new office bearers of Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC).
These appointments have been approved by Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Babar Saleem Swati to make the role of women members in the provincial legislature more active and organized.
According to the notification, the distribution of posts was carried out after the formal oath-taking of the newly elected members of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus. Speaker Babar Saleem Swati approved the new panel based on the consultation and performance of the members.
Under the new structure, Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi has been appointed as the Chairperson of the caucus. Senior Vice Chairpersons: Sobia Shahid and Shazia Tehmas, Vice Chairpersons: Shahida Bibi and Ashbar Jan Jadoon, General Secretary Rehana Ismail, Joint Secretary Amna Sardar, Finance Secretary Farah Khan, Information Secretary Aiman Jalil Jan.
The statement issued clarified that the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus will act as a platform within the Provincial Assembly, the main objective of which is to ensure the participation of women members in the legislative process.
According to the report, the caucus will focus on effective legislation for women’s rights and welfare to actively highlight women-related issues on the assembly floor. A joint struggle for gender equality beyond political affiliations.
Political experts and civil society have welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that this forum, led by Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi, will emerge as a strong voice for addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
