PESHAWAR (Shahid Jan): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly has unanimously passed a joint resolution calling for the immediate intervention of the government regarding the thousands of Pakistani workers currently languishing in Saudi Arabian jails.

The resolution, which was presented in the House by Nisar Baz of the Awami National Party (ANP), highlights the plight of approximately 5,000 Pakistanis imprisoned across Saudi Arabia.

According to the text of the resolution, the families of these imprisoned workers are facing severe financial and social hardships due to the absence of their primary breadwinners.

The House said that while Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoy exceptionally cordial and brotherly relations, the issue of these prisoners requires urgent diplomatic attention. Through the resolution, the provincial assembly has recommended that the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa formally raise this matter with the federal government.

The federal authorities are further urged to initiate high-level talks with Saudi Arabian officials to address the legal and humanitarian aspects of the prisoners’ cases. The unanimous passage of the resolution reflects a collective concern across the political spectrum for the welfare of overseas Pakistanis and their struggling families back home
