The National Emergency Operations Center of the NDMA has issued a detailed assessment of the expected weather conditions across the country from May 26 to 31 and has issued an alert for an intense heat wave.

According to the assessment, temperatures are expected to increase significantly in most parts of the country, while the mercury is expected to reach 40 to 48 degrees Celsius in various places.

On the instructions of the Prime Minister, the NDMA is continuously reviewing the preparations at the national level in view of the intensity of the heat and possible dangers, while the provincial disaster management authorities have started taking anticipatory actions so that any emergency situation can be dealt with in a timely manner.

NDMA has issued an alert of severe heat wave across the country from May 26 to 31. Temperatures are expected to increase significantly in most areas, with the mercury expected to reach 40 to 48 degrees Celsius at various places.

According to the NDMA, a public awareness campaign has been launched at the provincial level, emergency response teams are being deployed, cooling centers are being established and medical facilities are being improved.

According to NEOC, light rain is likely in the northern areas, including the Potohar region, under the influence of westerly winds, however, various areas of Sindh, Balochistan and southern Punjab will remain in the grip of an intense heat wave.

The rapid melting of glaciers due to intense heat in the mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir has increased the risks of landslides and flood situations.
