The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has officially handed over recovered assets valued at over Rs 6 billion to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
During a special ceremony in Peshawar on Tuesday, Chairman NAB Lt. Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed Butt transferred these assets to Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahab Ali Shah.
According to the NAB statement, the items in this first instalment include substantial cash, gold, valuable land, and luxury vehicles, collectively exceeding Rs 6 billion.
In his address at the ceremony, the NAB Chairman emphasised that this achievement is the result of a systematic and professional investigation. He disclosed that the total alleged embezzlement exceeding Rs 37 billion from government funds in the Kohistan corruption case is currently under investigation. To uncover the details of this complex scandal, the NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa team conducted a thorough forensic and financial analysis of more than 1,500 bank accounts, which revealed the entire network involved in the misappropriation of government funds.
He praised the performance of DG NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Farmanullah, and his investigation team for their diligence, which has enabled the recovery of a significant portion of the losses incurred by the national exchequer.
The NAB Chairman also stated that the process of recovering arrears and additional assets from the accused in this case is ongoing and proceeding swiftly. Once the legal requirements are fulfilled, more assets will also be transferred to the provincial government.
He reaffirmed the commitment that public funds are a national trust and that strict action will continue against corrupt individuals without any discrimination.
