Leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been sentenced to ten years in prison in connection with the May 9 GOR Gate attack case. In contrast, Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been acquitted of all charges in the same case.

The decision was announced by ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gill at Kot Lakhpat Jail. Those sentenced to ten years in prison include Dr Yasmin Rashid, Umar Sarfraz Cheema, Ijaz Chaudhry, and Mehmoodur Rasheed.

The court has also ordered the arrest and production of four proclaimed offenders: Farooq Anjum, Habib Ahmed, Arsalan, and Akbar Khan. The judge reserved the verdict after completing the trial proceedings.

During the trial, the prosecution recorded statements from 56 witnesses. A total of 25 individuals were nominated in the case, which included Dr Yasmin Rashid, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Umar Sarfraz Cheema, Ijaz Chaudhry, and Mehmoodur Rasheed. The challan for all 25 accused was submitted to the court.

The Race Course police registered the case following the attack at Club Chowk GOR Gate. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused vandalised security cameras at Club Chowk and damaged police wireless sets and glass panels at GOR Gate. The FIR also stated that government property was damaged and police personnel were attacked. The PTI leaders are accused of inciting their workers to engage in violence, riots, and rebellion on May 9.
