ISLAMABAD: OpenAI has announced major updates for ChatGPT users, including expanded access to GPT-5.6 Luna for Free and Go users and unlimited everyday text chats.

According to OpenAI, GPT-5.6 Luna will become the default model for Free and Go users, replacing GPT-5.5 Instant for everyday conversations. The company said the update is being rolled out to users this week.

Free users will also get a new Think button that will allow them to request deeper reasoning for more challenging questions. OpenAI said users can use the feature when they want ChatGPT to spend more effort on a response.

The company said text chats will be expanded without a fixed message limit for everyday use, although limits will continue to apply to features such as file uploads and image generation.

OpenAI is also updating GPT-5.6 Sol for Plus and Pro users. The company said the updated model is designed to provide more direct and concise responses while reducing unnecessary detail.

According to OpenAI, the updated Sol model has also improved accuracy and consistency, particularly when dealing with facts, dates, references, rules and assumptions. The company reported substantially fewer factual errors in internal evaluations involving financial, medical and legal questions.

The GPT-5.6 family includes Sol, Terra and Luna, with Luna positioned as the fastest and most cost-efficient model in the family. Availability varies by ChatGPT plan and product.

OpenAI said the latest updates are intended to give users broader access to its newer models while providing greater control over how much reasoning ChatGPT applies to more difficult questions.
