Kuwait City: The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) in Kuwait has quickly reacted to the complaints filed by the foreign workers. It immediately addressed the complaints of the foreign workers, providing the necessary assistance in dealing with the problem.
As per reports from the foreign press, the move came following the unusual meeting held by the workers; thereafter, authorities immediately acted, and the case was handed over to the criminal investigation authorities suspecting any involvement in human trafficking.
The Public Authority for Manpower received complaints about foreign workers holding an unlawful assembly at their offices. This meeting was treated very seriously due to the fear that it would lead to a collective work stoppage. To handle this problem, an emergency team was formed to deal with the situation.
All the concerned foreign workers were removed to safe places along with the provision of necessities and security. Further, interviews with the foreign workers were conducted regarding the cause of the gathering.
Early investigations into the matter have revealed various violations of labour laws. Some instances have even highlighted the problem of exploitation. In certain instances, there have been claims of forced labour and human trafficking. Following these findings, the issue has now been transferred to the CID.
According to statements issued by the Public Authority for Manpower, the rights of workers would always remain a priority. It was confirmed that the laws concerning labour would be strictly enforced, while legal proceedings would follow against individuals found guilty of any wrongdoing, irrespective of their status.
This comes as part of the efforts being made in order to curb the exploitation of workers in Kuwait and to improve the situation according to international standards.
Although the number of workers affected, their nationalities, and companies responsible have not been mentioned, Kuwait has experienced many such cases of worker exploitation in recent times, especially in delivery, construction, and service sectors.
